Spina Bifida is the most frequently-occurring, permanently disabling birth defect that is compatible with life in the United States. Founded in 1973, the Spina Bifida Association has been dedicated to building a better and brighter future for all those impacted by Spina Bifida through its five tiered approah of Research, Education & Support, Clinical Care, Network Building (connecting families and care givers) and Advocacy.
Formed in 2003 by caregivers who met in an online LBD caregiver support group, the LBDA aims to find a cure for Lewy body dementias & provide quality support for those still living with the disease.
Lewy Body Dementia is named after the scientist Friederich H. Lewy who discovered abnormal protein deposits that disrupt the brain's normal functioning while researching Parkinson's disease. Lewy body dementia exists either in pure form, or in conjunction with other brain changes, including those typically seen in Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease and as of now, there is currently no cure.
