Elizabeth A. McCormack
It is every educator's dream to have a true impact and Liz made that a reality. With her constant dedication to those with dyslexia, she affected not only her students, but everyone, in demonstrating the value each individual can have upon this world.
May her warm smile and deep hugs continue to bring joy and comfort to all those she loved and all those who loved her unequivocally in return.
To ensure your generosity and support are acknowledged, Liz’s family has requested that memorial contributions be made through IN MEMORY OF to the following
The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation honors the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. Through its programs, the Foundation is committed to ensuring we never forget the events of 9/11, the sacrifices that were made and the sacrifices that continue to be made by our first responders in the line of duty today.
Through the Fallen First Responder Home Program, Tunnel to Towers aims to pay off the mortgages of fallen law enforcement officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty that leave behind young children. With its Smart Home Program, The Tunnel to Towers Foundation builds mortgage-free smart homes for the most catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. Each home is designed to address the unique needs of each individual, enabling them to reclaim their independence. And launched in 2018, The Gold Star Family Home Program expands the Foundation’s service to honor the legacy of those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country, providing a mortgage-free home to surviving spouses with young children.
Founded in the 1920’s, the International Dyslexia Association is the oldest organization dedicated to the study and treatment of dyslexia. Today IDA membership exceeds 10,000 teachers, other professionals, individuals with dyslexia, and parents, with 42 branches in the U.S. and Canada and 24 Global Partners across the globe. It continues its mission of seeking to study and treat dyslexia for the benefit of those with dyslexia and their families and may be best understood by the quote of two of its pioneers:
“Dyslexia: The differences are personal; the diagnosis is clinical; the treatment is educational; the understanding is scientific; and the Orton Dyslexia Society (now the IDA) serves the united whole.” – Margaret Byrd Rawson and Roger Saunders ca. 1982
The St. Joseph's Indian School in South Dakota is a Native American Nonprofit Organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of Lakota Sioux children and families. Its mission is to educate Native American youth for life, mind, body, heart and spirit. This mission drives the organization to educate and provide housing for over 200 Lakota Sioux children each year. Child poverty and abuse are serious issues on Indian reservations and St. Joseph's helps Native American children in need reestablish pride in the Lakota (Sioux) culture by learning the Lakota language, studying Native American culture and healing the broken family circle from which they come, thereby providing an opportunity for Lakota (Sioux) children to escape extreme poverty and abuse.
The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) was established in 1998 by identical twin sisters Kathy Giusti and Karen Andrews soon after Kathy’s diagnosis of multiple myeloma. Because the foundation's only motivation is to find a cure, it is unencumbered in its ability to identify the barriers to progress, develop models to overcome them, and help evolve the industry through technologies that foster collaboration and leverage the collective power of the entire community in a patient-centric model. Through this new model of funding, ten drugs received FDA approval in the time it normally takes for one and more recently, clinical trials for new drugs in three approved classes plus agents in many new classes were opened. The Foundation is committed to helping fund new drug breakthroughs that will make a difference in patients' lives and ultimately change the way cancer research is conducted.
