Harry Leake Sr.
~ In Loving & Blessed Memory ~
To ensure your generosity and support are acknowledged, Harry’s family has requested that memorial contributions be made through IN MEMORY OF to the following
As a long-time and active parishioner of the Shadyrest Bible Church, this has been the religious and spiritual community for Harry and the Leake Family. His generosity of spirit was experienced by all who were blessed to have known him and in this way, his gifts will live on.
Founded in the East End of London in 1878, the organization received its name when William Booth read a printer's proof of an annual report stating "The Christian Mission is a volunteer army." Replacing ‘volunteer’ with ‘salvation’, he and his wife Catherine founded the Salvation Army. What began as a loosely organization of 1,000 has grown into an international Christian operating centers in communities across the world, providing food distribution, disaster relief, rehabilitation centers, anti-human trafficking efforts, and a wealth of children's programs.
The New Jersey Division of the Salvation Army was founded in Newark in 1880, and now has 29 Corps Worship & Community Centers which are the most basic service components of The Salvation Army, providing religious and social services adapted to the needs of their communities.
All donations made in Harry’s name will be funded to the Trenton location of the Salvation Army New Jersey Division.
In 1941 President Franklin D. Roosevelt sought to unite several service associations - the Salvation Army, Young Men’s Christian Association, Young Women’s Christian Association, National Catholic Community Services, National Travelers Aid Association and the National Jewish Welfare Board - to lift the morale of the US military. Throughout its 75 year history, the USO has continued to provide services, programs and entertainment to US military personnel in support of their dedication to their country and to keep them connected to those at home.
