Ernie will be remembered as a decent and intelligent gentleman who loved and was loved by his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and a curious mind. His word was his bond. He was a lifelong Catholic and held a core belief that doing the right thing was more important than doing what was popular.

Founded in 1917 as a challenge to Chicago business leaders to expand beyond business issues and focus efforts on the betterment of local communities, the Lions Club chapters today empower volunteers to improve their communities through both localized and international social service.  With projects ranging from various eyesight initiatives - screenings for the elderly, eyeglass recycling, eradicating river blindness - to humanitarian aid, local food pantry programs and scholarship funding for students, the Lions Club continues its mission to help improve its community, be it local, national or international in scope.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of its founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.
