Samaritan's Purse - Operation Christmas Child
Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Founded in 1970 on the moral story of the Good Samaritan, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Operation Christmas Child was started in the United Kingdom in 1990 by Dave and Jill Cooke to help the children of the war-torn Balkans receive toys for the Christmas holiday. In 1993 the program merged with Samaritan’s Purse, scaling the operation and sending out 28,000 shoebox gifts to children that year. Since then, Operation Christmas Child has delivered gift-filled shoeboxes to over 188 million children in more than 170 countries to those affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease
