American Lung Association
In 1904, Tuberculosis (TB) was the most feared disease in the world. Determined to battle the "White Plague," a group of doctors and concerned citizens engaged in a revolutionary concept at the time - a nationwide organization to fight a single disease. Initially called the National Association for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis, it was the first voluntary health agency in America. Today, as the American Lung Association, the organization continues to focus on improving lung health and preventing lung disease through education, advocacy and research.
