Born in Prachatice in Bohemia in 1811, John Neumann devoted himself to missionary work, immigrating to the United States to provide spiritual support for the influx of European immigrants coming to America. He had a significant impact on religious life in the U.S., building 89 churches as well as several hospitals and orphanages in just seven years in this country and is now known as the patron saint of ill children and immigrants.
