The American Heart Association is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. Founded by six cardiologists in 1924, the organization now includes more than 22.5 million volunteers, 156 local offices and over 3,000 employees. The organization funds innovative research, advocates for stronger public health policies, and provides critical tools and information to save and improve lives. The American Stroke Association was created as a division in 1997 to bring together the organization’s stroke-related activities.
Founded in 1952 with the vision to have life free of diabetes and all of its burdens, the American Diabetes Association is driven by its mission to prevent and cure diabetes and improve the lives of all people affected with this disease. Through its myriad programs including research funding, delivered services to communities, and providing objective and relevant information to patients, physicians and communities, the ADA continues its efforts to fulfill its goal of eradicating diabetes.
