Bob Grubb, Jr.

Lifeguard ~ Father ~ Fisherman

Cape May Point was where he found harmony with the flow of the tide. The cadence of the incoming waves brought bounty from the surf, whether he was netting minnows, hooking flounder, or forever pursuing running stripers.

Bob always had that feeling, instinctually knowing that the next big one was just at the end of the rock pile.

“Then he felt the gentle touch on the line and he was happy.”

- Ernest Hemingway, The Old Man and the Sea

His Best Last Summer

With the aid of new accessibility on-ramps to the CMP beaches, special sand wheelchairs, and the outgoing tide, Bob could get to all of the places in Cape May Point where he loved to fish.

The Grubb family is deeply grateful to the men and women of Cape May Point Beach Patrol and the Borough of Cape May Point, who gave their time and energy to accessibility efforts. A warm thank you to Bill Oat, Chris Garrison, and their teams for going above and beyond in service to a fellow lifeguard.

In lieu of flowers, we are creating this IN MEMORY OF Bob's memory by contributing to the Cape May Point Beach Patrol to support the access, care, and safety of our beautiful beaches.

Cape May Point Beach Patrol

Since its founding in 1910, the Cape May Point Beach Patrol has experienced a continual improvement in services provided, preventative lifeguarding tactics, quality of personnel, and competitive efforts. Though they are the smallest beach patrol in the South Jersey Lifeguard Chief’s Association, their heart, compassion, and dedication are unmatched by any patrol.
