The Autism Society of Central Virginia is the local affiliate of the national organization and has been serving the families and communities of Central Virginia for the past thirty years.

FRAXA Research Foundation

Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is a genetic disorder that prevents the production of a protein necessary for normal brain development. It affects 1 in 4,000 boys and 1 in 6,000 girls worldwide and is the most common inherited cause of autism and intellectual disabilities. Founded in 1994 by 3 parents whose first born sons had Fragile X Syndrome, the FRAXA Research Foundation is committed to find effective treatments and ultimately a cure for Fragile X syndrome. The organization directly funds research grants and fellowships at top universities around the world and partners with biomedical and pharmaceutical companies, large and small, to bridge the gap between research discoveries and actual treatments.

Fisher House Foundation

Fisher House Foundation is known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment. These homes are located at major military and VA medical centers nationwide, close to the medical center or hospital they serve.
