To ensure your generosity and support are acknowledged - and to help protect you from future solicitations - Joan’s family has requested that memorial contributions be made through IN MEMORY OF to the following

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia was founded in 1855 by Francis West Lewis, MD. After visiting the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children in London, Dr. Lewis decided to create the first hospital in the United States dedicated to finding cures and treating illnesses and injuries specific to children.  In the Hospital's first year, it had 12 beds and a dispensary. Today, Children’s Hospital has 546 beds and more than 1 million outpatient visits and inpatient admissions each year. Patients around the world benefit from major research advances in a variety of areas including cardiac, genetics, cancer, fetal surgery, neonatology and vaccines.

Contributions made in Joan’s name will be allocated for the Cancer Center at CHOP.

Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice

When Dame Cecily Saunders, the founder of the modern hospice movement, spoke in Philadelphia in the late 1970's, she inspired a group of local volunteers led by Dr. Agnes Gowdy. They dedicated themselves to introducing this comforting kind of end-of-life care to South Jersey in 1980. Their grassroots efforts, even before Congress authorized Medicare payments for hospice care, created the organization today known as Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice. Today, Samaritan offers hospice care to patients and families as a non-profit and non-sectarian organization, serving all without regard to ability to pay.

Contributions made in Joan’s name will be directed to the Voorhees Center of Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice.
