Children’s Home Society of New Jersey

The Children’s Home Society was founded in the late 1800’s by the Reverend Martin Van Arsdale in Chicago to shift from infrastructure of almshouses and foster a more nurturing environment for children from at risk families in individual homes. It was on this moral grounding that in 1894, the Reverend Martin T. Lamb was sent to New Jersey, establishing The Children’s Home Society of New Jersey, Following in the same path as its founding, the organization believes that all children have secure, caring families, good health, and function well cognitively, emotionally and behaviorally. Its programs address behavioral health/ mental health, permanency planning, community, neighborhood & school based as well as early childhood and parent education services.
