In 1980, 60 local churches and charities that were concerned about growing hunger and poverty in the region formed the Central Virginia Food Bank. Working to expand their mission in different ways, the Food Bank and Meals on Wheels worked together to create the Community Kitchen in 2005 to cost-effectively create cooked-from-scratch meals for neighbors in need across Central Virginia. Successful in partnership, the two organizations officially merged in 2008 to create Feed More, which, through its myriad programs including the Food Pantry, Hunger Hotline, Meals on Wheels & Kids Backpacks, provide 52,000 meals a day to Central Virginians who are in need.
